Yes! We encourage you to use a sheet on your mattress but make sure you use a breathable organic cotton muslin sheet like ours. Newton crib sheets are just as breathable as the crib mattress and come in various colors and patterns.
Will the sheets fit any crib mattress?
Our sheets fit any standard American crib mattress or mini crib mattress. They are made to a universal sizing standard to fit securely and snuggly on any crib mattress.

Mini crib sheets measure 24" x 38" and fit a crib mattress up to 8" thick. We designed our Newton mini crib sheets to fit securely over the Newton Mini Crib Mattress, but they also fit other mini crib mattresses of similar dimensions. The best material for mini crib sheets is organic muslin cotton. This type of cotton is 100% breathable, 100% machine washable, and 100% comfortable.
The breathable aspect is particularly important for two reasons:

- It helps them regulate their body temperature and stay warm at night

Mini crib sheets — or any sheets, for that matter — that aren’t GOTS certified may be made with toxic synthetic chemicals that can leach out and affect your baby’s health.
A properly fitted mini crib sheet should:
- Be pulled taut over the mattress with no loose fabric
- Have corners that fit securely around the mattress
- Not come loose if your baby moves while they sleep
When putting a sheet on your baby’s mattress for the first time, inspect the flat surface where your little one will sleep. If you see loose material that creates folds or the corners look like they might come untucked, the sheet may not be the right size.
Similarly, if you move your hand back and forth on the sheet after it’s on the mattress and it comes loose, you may need to try a different size.
A good rule of thumb is to have three or four mini crib sheets on hand. Why? Because accidents will happen — and often!
You’ll only need one mini crib sheet on the mattress at a time, but your baby may have a diaper blowout or throw up in their crib. You don’t want to be doing laundry in the middle of the night when that happens, so having sheets on hand is always a good idea.
Change your baby’s mini crib sheet about every three days (or twice a week).
You can certainly change it more often if you like, but twice a week helps prevent dead skin, hair, and dust from accumulating where your baby sleeps and attracting bacteria and pests.
